Cisternerne
Cisternerne is an underground exhibition space and former water reservoir tucked beneath Søndermarken in Frederiksberg. Built in 1856–59 to supply Copenhagen with clean drinking water and decommissioned in 1933, the cisterns now form a 4,320 m² subterranean art space with a 4.2 m high ceiling and dripstones formed by the damp climate. Each year an internationally renowned artist or architect is invited to create a site-specific installation that interacts with the architecture, climate and history of the space.
