Crocodile Museum

The Crocodile Museum is located beside the Kom Ombo Temple on the eastern bank of the Nile, north of Aswan. Opened in 2012, it is dedicated to the god Sobek and displays mummified Nile crocodiles ranging from 2 to 4.30 metres in length, alongside crocodile foetuses and gold and ivory replicas of crocodile eyes and teeth. The museum also houses statues of Sobek in various sizes, a reconstructed tomb modelled on the el-Shatb necropolis showing burial practices, and ceramic coffins that once held the mummies of these sacred animals.
