Champs Chapel Museum of East Hendred
The Champs Chapel Museum of East Hendred is a local village museum housed in the former Chapel of Jesus of Bethlehem, built in 1453 by Carthusian monks. Long known locally as Champs Chapel after the family that owned it prior to the 19th century, the building was deconsecrated during the dissolution of the monasteries under Henry VIII but uniquely retains its original roof and form. The museum displays the East Hendred Heritage Trust's collection of village artefacts, pictures, documents, books and photographs, with a reserve store in Snells Hall housing the village's horse-drawn, hand-powered fire pump from 1831.
