Izaak Waltonʼs Cottage
Izaak Walton's Cottage is a charming thatched 16th-century half-timbered cottage in the hamlet of Shallowford, owned by Izaak Walton, the celebrated author of 'The Compleat Angler'. The museum offers a marvellous insight into the history of fishing and the literary talent of Stafford's famous son. Inside, visitors learn about Izaak Walton as merchant, churchman, biographer, writer, angler, and Royalist, along with his influence as an early conservationist. Period rooms are furnished to reflect the rural trappings of the 17th century. Izaak left the cottage in his will to the people of Stafford. The knot garden, paddock field, and summer events programme make it a perfect destination for families. The cottage is also an approved venue for small weddings and civil ceremonies.
