Lauriston Castle, Edinburgh City Museums
Lauriston Castle is a beautifully preserved 16th-century tower house with later Jacobean extensions, set within 30 acres of grounds overlooking the Firth of Forth in Edinburgh. Owned by Edinburgh City Museums, the castle is renowned for its remarkable Edwardian interior, which remains almost entirely intact — a rare survival that includes exquisite collections of Crossley wool mosaics, Scottish furniture, and Japanese lacquerwork assembled by the last private owners. Guided tours take visitors through elegant period rooms that transport them to the Edwardian era of comfortable country-house living.
