Altidore Castle

This 18th century castallated house, described as a “Georgian toy fort“ was built near the ruins of a medieval castle of the O’Toole family in the eastern slopes of the Wicklow Mountains and is now owned by Descendants of Thomas Addis Emmet. Its collection contains Robert Emmet's college books in the Emmet Museum. The Castle was designed by Edward Lovatt Pearce about 1730, and his uncle was one of the original owners. The Emmet family purchased the house in 1945. The mature and informal gardens are open for viewing and the estate is managed organically.
