The Waterwheels

Abbey Assaroe, near Ballyshannon in Donegal, was founded by the Cistercian monks of Boyle Abbey in the 12th Century. The Abbey Mill Restoration Trust acquired the mills and surrounding area in 1989. The restored mill houses a coffee shop/restaurant, a craft shop and a museum. The museum tells the history of the Medieval Cistercians in Ireland. The two rotating water wheels have also been lovingly restored. The Water Wheels are in an exceptional setting overlooking the Erne Estuary and the Atlantic Ocean.
