Indian Museum
The Indian Museum in Kolkata is the oldest and largest museum in India, and one of the oldest museums in the world, founded in 1814. Located on Jawaharlal Nehru Road in central Kolkata, its vast collections span natural history, archaeology, art, anthropology, geology, and zoology across 35 galleries. Highlights include Mauryan-era sculptures, an Egyptian mummy, Gandharan Buddhist art, fossils, and rare manuscripts. The museum is administered by the Archaeological Survey of India.
