Museo Diocesano d’Arte Sacra di Lecce
Museo Diocesano d'Arte Sacra di Lecce is housed in the Palazzo del Seminario, a magnificent Baroque building in the centre of Lecce designed by the architect Giuseppe Cino for Bishop Michele Pignatelli. Construction began in 1694, the building was inaugurated in 1709, and an attic storey was added in 1729. The museum brings together the sacred art heritage of the Diocese of Lecce, presented across several rooms: paintings spanning the medieval to the modern period, sculpture, a significant collection of sacred silverware, and liturgical vestments and embroidery. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and educational programmes for schools, and offers a virtual tour of the collection.
