THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART, WAKAYAMA
Originally opened in 1963, this museum was transformed to its current state in 1970. It moved to the unique building designed by KUROKAWA Kisho in 1994, which shows a superb contrast with the traditional Wakayama Castle in the lush greenery. While considering the art-historical links, the museum mainly focuses on artists from the Meiji Period to date who are related to Wakayama Pref. and holds a collection of more than 10,000 pieces of work from home and abroad. Its print collection allows viewers to trace the history of prints in modern Japan and is introduced in various ways at exhibitions.
