Shimonoseki City Art Museum

The museum was opened in 1983. Since then the museum had held arts from in and outside of the country through exhibitions, as well as through the introduction of the ‘Exhibition of Collections’ based on Japanese modern arts. The museum has various art works totals to approximately 2000. Collections include the paintings of Kano Hogai who was born in Chofu and is called as the ‘father of the modern Japanese paintings’, as well as the paintings of Takashima Hokkai and Kazuki Yasuo who are also from the local area.
