Takeo City Library&Historical Museum

Takeo City Library & Historical Museum (“Epochal Takeo”) is a library and history museum complex. Our main collection is materials of the Takeo Nabeshima (alias Goto) Family who ruled Takeo Province of Saga Domain from 12th to late 19th century. Valuable Dutch books and cannons, etc. represent the achievements of this family, who were among the first to promote Dutch studies in Saga--the most pre-emptive and modern domain in the last years of feudal Japan. Such items go on display as part of special exhibitions planned by the museum four times a year, with additional citizen-led exhibitions.
