urasoe art museum
Ryukyu lacquerware comes in many varieties: some pieces are coated in vivid crimson lacquer, while others are exquisitely inlaid with iridescent mother of pearl. Our permanent exhibition focuses on Ryukyu lacquerware and discusses the lacquerware culture extending to China, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia. In our other exhibition rooms, we display ancient, recent, and modern art from both Japan and elsewhere. These temporary exhibits sometimes consist of pieces by a single artist, and sometimes pieces by many artists with a common theme.
