Mažosios Lietuvos istorijos muziejus

The Museum of the History of Lithuania Minor (Mažosios Lietuvos istorijos muziejus) is housed in one of the oldest Baroque buildings in Klaipėda, constructed in 1774 for postal director Johann Christian Witte. The museum chronicles the rich and complex history of Lithuania Minor — the historical region encompassing the northwestern part of East Prussia — from prehistoric times through the customs of the Curonian and Scalvian tribes, the Teutonic Order's conquest and governance, the origins of printed Lithuanian-language books and press, and the turbulent events of the first half of the 20th century. A special focus is given to the traditional culture of the Lietuvininkiai, the ethnic Lithuanian inhabitants of this region. The museum also features an outdoor exhibition in the Old Town and hosts guided tours and educational programmes.
