Andrejs Upīts Memorial Apartment

Apartment of writer Andrejs Upīts (1877–1970) at 38 Brīvības Street, Rīga, is the author’s last residence where his long, productive and controversial life ended in the fall of 1970. This is one of the few museums in Latvia to have preserved the realities of recent history and the paradoxes of socialist ideology.

The room settings, the household objects, the photographs and, above all, the library books capture and mirror Andrejs Upīts’s persona. Among the thousands of books, in an environment defined by the writer’s style of working, his family traditions and the era, you can delve into his prose and his contested performance as a literary critic and political figure.

The museum is a structural unit of the Memorial Museum Association.
