Ķekava Local History Museum
The permanent display of Ķekava Local History Museum, “Five Stories of Ķekava District”, illuminates the lives of local inhabitants in 20th century through times of war and Soviet occupation until the restoration of independence. Meanwhile, the permanent display about locally born cartoonist Edgars Ozoliņš invites children and adults alike to learn about the genre of caricature in Latvia in an interactive and engaging way – through exhibitions and educational programmes. In addition, every year, the museum presents the Edgars Ozoliņš Award in caricature whose recipient is decided in a drawing contest for schoolchildren “Take a Laugh!”. In their time, a number of professional cartoonists, including Agris Liepiņš, Zemgus Zaharāns, Ēriks Ošs, Imants Melgailis, Gatis Šļūka, etc., have received this award.
The museum offers a variety of thematic traveling exhibitions about caricature and cartoon as a genre and a number of educational programmes on historical topics.
