The 1991 Barricades Museum

The 1991 Barricades Museum is the only professional and accredited museum to provide detailed information about the climax of the Awakening – the historic events of the barricades of January 1991 and the August coup. In January 1991, on present-day museum premises, the people who had flocked to the barricades were given hot tea. Here, they could get warm and rest. These days, the building houses a thematic exhibition that includes original items used on the barricades, equipment of the OMON or the Special Purpose Police Unit and memorabilia of the fallen. Sitting by a “real” barricade fire, you can learn about past events from an assortment of video and audio recordings.
