Tukums Weaving Workshop

The principal display features more than 40 looms, including a 19th-century mechanical loom with pulleys and levers and an early 20th-century semi-automatic loom made by craftsman and designer Pēteris Viļumsons. The workshop supports People’s Applied Art Studio “Durbe”. Studio members largely focus on researching and making folk costume, producing collections of ethnographic dress for the museum of Tukums. The space is used for applied art exhibitions, individual and group trainings, lessons for pupils and adults, creative workshops, continued education courses and consultations for those interested in choosing and making a folk costume. Visitors can purchase souvenirs and handmade textiles by weavers from Tukums and other creators.
