Varakļāni District Museum

Varakļāni District Museum has been located in the palace of Count Michael Borch of Varakļāni (1783-1789) since 13 September 1997. It was officially established in 2001. Valued murals and painted ceilings from the 18th and 19th century have been discovered on the premises, which can be viewed along with other palace interiors and the chapel.

The museum has an upgraded permanent display on the life and scientific outputs of Michael Borch, as well as on the history of the town of Varakļāni and its surroundings. Various exhibitions and thematic events are frequently organised here. The museum also offers educational, recreational and environmental research programmes. A tourist information centre operates on the premises, offering tour guide services across the district. The museum also rents out rooms for seminars, conferences, social events and wedding receptions.
