Viesīte Museum “Sēlija”, Pauls Stradiņš School Department

Pauls Stradiņš School is located in the former parish schoolhouse of Eķengrāve, which was built in 1880. Here, Professor Pauls Stradiņš was christened and went to elementary school. Since the building has always served as an educational facility, most museum spaces are called classrooms or study rooms. In the study of Professor Stradiņš, visitors can see artefacts that reveal him as a genuine luminary, an aristocrat in spirit, a very humble and sympathetic person. The Old Stender’s study displays a replica of an oak washing machine of his own design. In the literature classroom, you can explore a typical mid-20th century learning space or participate in a calligraphy workshop.

Visitors can also take a peek into the drawing room of the Stenders family. Medical equipment can be seen in an assistant doctor’s office. In the history classroom, you can learn about the history of Viesīte and its surroundings. Temporary exhibitions are available in the showroom. In the school garden, near the Little Lake of Viesīte and adjacent the Love Trail, you can walk “The Foot of Health” with its more than 60 herbs and see the parkway of centenary rowans.
