Viļaka District Museum
The museum displays typical locally produced ethnographic materials, including tools, pottery, home-spun textiles, etc., giving a glimpse into the daily lives of the locals in days gone by. In the White Room, you can learn about the history of local Christian congregations: Catholic, Orthodox and Lutheran. The memorial room of Catholic bishops Kazimirs Duļbinskis and Valerians Zondaks exhibits their professional paraphernalia and personal belongings. In the local history showroom, you can examine a numismatic collection that covers the period from the 18th century until 2013.
Likewise, the museum offers the collection of phillumenist Jānis Laicāns with more than 1,500 matchbox labels from the Soviet Union and other countries. A display about school history in Viļaka Disrtrict informs about roughly 35 existing and former schools around Viļaka. The former monastery building is used as a showroom for art exhibitions and a Latvian bird egg collection assembled by a local collector, Edvards Spravniks.
