Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt

The Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt is built within the inner area of the Ruins of St. Paul's, where the magnificent Church of Mater Dei previously stood. Archaeological excavations and restoration occurred from 1990-1996, with the museum inaugurated on October 23, 1996. The crypt houses remains believed to belong to Father Alexander Valignano, the St. Paul's College founder, along with relics of Japanese and Vietnamese martyrs. The museum displays sacred objects from Macao's churches and convents, including paintings, crucifixes, statues, and liturgical vessels from the 17th-19th centuries.
