The Wool Shed, National Museum Of Sheep & Shearing

The Wool Shed, The National Museum of Sheep and Shearing follows the history and development of sheep farming in New Zealand, wool and the shearing industry. The wool shed is the centre of activity on all sheep farms and these authentic sheds follow the farming process through to the harvesting and processing of wool. The museum is housed in two relocated pioneer wool sheds. The Wool Shed has three-dimensional displays of shearing shed plant and activities, along with interactive and video displays. This is also the home of Golden Shears, the iconic international Shearing Championship event. Spinners and weavers meet every Wednesday at the Museum to ply their craft and all can join in the discussion with them. Live sheep shearing demonstrations can be arranged with prior notice (Minimum 1 week notice required). The Museum shop has a great selection of wool garments, possum/merino clothing & accessories and sheepskin slippers/boots for young and old - all at very competitive prices. Plus many other wonderful items. This museum is definitely a must-see.
