District Six Museum

The District Six Museum in Cape Town tells the story of District Six, named for being the Sixth Municipal District of Cape Town in 1867 — a once-vibrant community whose residents were forcibly removed under apartheid-era legislation. Through permanent and rotating exhibitions, oral history, education programs, and youth networks, the museum preserves the stories of those who lived in District Six and explores themes of restitution and memory.
