We are the membership organisation representing European veterinarians committed to improving the health, welfare and conservation of wildlife through advancements in zoo and wildlife medicine and promotion of the full and proper use of specialist wildlife veterinary expertise in the management of both captive and free ranging wildlife. We have focused our work into 5 key areas:
1. ADVOCACY and ALLIANCES
A corner stone of our work is getting recognition and uptake of this important specialist discipline amongst wildlife professionals and those responsible for wildlife management. We have formed strategic partnerships with a number of key organisations and work closely with Governments across Europe. See Advocacy and Alliances for more detail.
2. SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES
We are also committed to advancing the discipline of zoo and wildlife medicine. We do this through facilitating research (see Conservation Research Grants), providing a forum for disseminating results (see Annual Conference) and providing specialist scientific infromation to stakeholders in wildlife management through the provision of technical guidelines and training (see Standards and Technical Resources).
3. EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITES
Together we work to increase the knowledge, skills and competencies of our membership and other relevant wildlife professionals through provision of training courses, workshops and opportunities to share experiences (see Training Workshops, Online Courses and Internships & Student Placements). We cater for both Students - the future of our profession - and established professionals. We encourage our members to achieve high standards and accredited specialist status. 4. NETWORKING and INFORMATION SHARING AMONGST OUR MEMBERSHIP
The zoo veterinary profession is a highly collaborative one. The species range that we look after is so broad that to do our best work, we must consult with each other. EAZWV provides a Forum for doing so, linking up zoo vets across Europe through our Regional and Specialist sections, Working Groups, Newsletters, Website and Membership Directory/Species Veterinary Advisor lists.
